Check engine light obd-II codes?
My check engine light came on in my 1996 mercury cougar I had it checked at autozone and the error code that came up was p1443 and this is what the printout said that they gave me:
trouble shooting p1443
oem brand: ford
definition:
evap canister purge valve mechanical fault or vmv fault condition
explanation:
ecm detected a Fuel Tank pressure change greater than a minus 7 inches of h2o in 30 seconds with purge less the 0.02 lbs. per minute
probable causes
1.failed EVAP pressure sensor
2.blocked hose between purge valve and FTP sensor
3.evap purge valve stuck closed
The autzone guy told me he cleared the code and that it could just be a faulty gas cap so i left and before i got a chance to get a new gas cap the check engine light came on any suggestions? thank you
maybe a plugged Fuel Filter but im not sure because then you wouldnt run very long. I know that on my dads car the top seal on his Fuel Pump rotted out and his check engine light came on. good luck
