Hello, I am going from a Mercruiser Pre Alpha setup to alpha1 gen1 and would like to know about Power Steering?
Hi there,
I was wondering if it's possible to make a Mercruiser Pre alpha power steering unit work on an Alpha One gen 1 Transom Bracket, housing and sterndrive.
If not, is it then possible use the pre alpha power Steering Pump and hoses and hook it up to an alpha One Gen 1 power steering unit? Or do I need everything from alpha one to make this work?
I am currently re-powering my boat and going from pre alpha to alpha one gen1.
I have a new style engine, alpha One Transom plate, housing and sterndrive. Except for the power steering unit. I do still have all the pre alpha gear.

i dont think you even have to change the Transom Plate. gen 1 will go on in place of old #1 but not gen 2. still might not be a bad idea to change to the newer stuff. be sure not to restrict the movement of the Steering Cable, housing movement is makes the spool valve move to make the power steering work.
