Do you think fish are happy?
I'm totally serious. I was just watching my fish this evening and I wondered ... "Are fish happy???" I would like some scientific answers / explanations please. I look forward to your answers!
Fish memory depends on species ... Oscars don't forget an injustice done them.Ever. Happy is a human emotion ... I'd go with "content" as the word to describe their better moments. What separates humans from all else is emotion and irrational thought ... dolphins and apes have intelligence and rational thought, so we are really no better. Fish do not have emotions, they have instincts that are passed down generation to generation ... ingrained behaviors for specific stimuli. These ingrained behaviors are what they exhibit when their basic needs are met. "Happy" is a human term used to describe when all physical needs are met, or an emotional need is met. When all a fish's physical needs are met they are "content" or "satisfied". Nothing wrong with using a human word, Happy, to describe that state ... it's just a play on words.
