Can I convert a gasoline car engine to a bio diesel engine?
I would like to convert my 1994 GMC pickup from a gasoline burning engine to a vegtable oil / bio-diesel engine. Can it be done?
I think it will be hard, even if technically feasible, because of the need for a fuel injection unit, at high psi. Basically, the gasoline engine gives power by the quick ignition and explosion of the gasoline inside the chamber. The higher the octane level, the better. We have 95 octane gasoline available in the market. If you convert to vegetable oil/bio-diesel engine, that means your fuel has lower volatility, like Diesel Fuel, and thus, the engine has to compress that fuel at higher temperature, and at higher compression rate inside the cylinder to produce heat, ultimately burning the fuel.The fastest option, though not the least cost is to install readily available diesel engine, like Isuzu. Very reliable and powerful.
